Post subject: Question: Surviving LVRR Power/Rolling Stock
PostPosted: Wed May 01, 2002 11:52 pm

1.) Other than SW-1 112 thats in Tennesee, a couple of SW-8's on the Reading and Northern, the ex LV GP-38's on the D&H, the c-420's on the Delaware Lackawanna and the SRNJ...

What other LV locomotives survive?

2.) Any other surviving passenger equipment other than the 353 ?

Thanks in advance

An ex-LV U-23B (one of the units paid for by USRA in 1975), is at Wimpey Minerals in Annapolis Junction, MD.

RR Museum of PA at Strasburg has LV Parlor Car 1552 (Pullman, 1927).

They have an LV caboose and a box car as well.

I believe the Kentucky Railway Museum had a steel LV commuter coach, but when I saw it ten years ago it was rough. I do not know if it made the move when they relocated.

I believe there is also a LV business car in the ex Al Nippert collection at the Indiana Railway Museum in French Lick

The KRM sold the car before the move from Louisville. I don't know who purchased it. It came to the museum from the Clinchfield who used it in their steam excursion program.

The Anthracite RR's Historical Society has LV cars 1553 & 1554, albiet as converted work train cars. We also have a steel 50' box (can't remember the # offhand) still in CR colors, but hopefully to be repainted in the white scheme one of these years.

An RCT&HS member has 3 coal hoppers, and a coal hopper converted to a sand car on the Reading & Northern, plus RCT&HS just got a LV caboose that came from Pittsburg & Shawmut. Also, I believe that #114 on Wilmington & Western is also nee-LV

LV SW-1 119 is sitting in the dead line at the R.T.I. steel mill in Lorain,Ohio. you can still read the LV lettering through the ugly green. R.T.I. is currently in chapter 11. the locomotive needs wheels BAD, and the prime mover won't hold water. It's an A block.I'm curnently tring to figure out how to save it. It was fun to run but kinda a pain in the a#$ to try and keep water in.

At least three ex-LV SW-8's are on various North Shore operations: #365 and #364 at Northumberland and another at the Wellsboro & Corning. The W&C unit was one of the dynamic brake-equipped units and its hood was modified by Conrail when they removed the dynamics.

Right you are; they have LV 40, an RDC-1 (Budd, 1951) I was later RDG 9163. It is displayed as LV 40. It worked the Lehighton-Hazleton shuttle for LV.
