Thanks Les! Knowing that, it'd sure be neat to restore it to operation. But first they just gotta do something with poor ol' #6.

EBT #6 was not traded for NYC #6894 as stated earlier. The Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum was not the owner of the locomotive. We did work with the owners and or Estates to acquire the engine. We also worked out a deal with the museum for track rent owed to them by the owners. #6894 better fits our needs as it represents a series of locomotives that once worked the NYC Whitewater Branch.

I can say that #6 will have a new home in the future. I am not at liberty to say where or who this is, but a deal was worked out with a preservation group nearer to the EBT. Most of #6's removed items are stored inside including a new wooden cab. The builder and number plates in the photo are not the originals, as they are stored as well.

The "new boiler" referred to earlier was built for #100 and both have since been sold to a lumber company historical society in Florida for future display and possible operation. See the link for more information. http://www.whitewatervalleyrr.org/media ... 705_pr.pdf

Thanks for the information. I remember about 25 years ago meeting J.R. Phillips, he showed me a photo album detailing the efforts to get #100 into service. It sound like everything is going to find a better home.

I am curious about the reservoir mounted on top of the valve chest cover. Possibly a pressure lubricator for flanges or guides? Anyone know what it is for and how it works?

I certainly apologize for the earlier mis-information. I only spoke in good faith of what I had been told by people who I thought were a part of the dealings. Wherever 6 is going I hope it's a good home where it she'll be cared for. As for 6894, I wish she could have been better taken care of during her time in Hagerstown. She definitely didn't deserve to rot in the weeds for so many years.

Nice to see that #6 might be going to a good home. I'd hope that one day at least one of the two would be back under steam somewhere within the Commonwealth of PA.

So eight years down the road, is anyone at liberty to tell where #6 actually wound up? Still sitting at Whitewater Valley or moved? Just curious for those of us that keep track of such things.

Still sitting at WVRR rotting away along with the 6894. It's a toss-up as to which is in worse shape.

In the deadline photo, does anyone know what engine that is sitting behind #6? Almost looks like a Heisler with that V cylinder.

They did have two small Heisler's at White Valley, and used one I believe, for a while on the caboose train out of Metamora. I heard that that didn't work to well for some reason and both Heisler's were eventually sold. One went to the outfit in Freeport, Illinois and has been used successfully up there for quite a few years now. The other one that was sold, was still at WV the last I heard, but that may have changed now.

Les, nope, still sitting there also. It belongs to a guy in Louisiana who comes up a couple of weeks every year and stabilizes it from the elements.
