Just a Question? Why were the axleboxes hang from the frame instead of installed on the driver journals with cellars applied which is the standard way of putting a locomotive frame/boiler down on its wheels? Seams the hard way and much harder to keep everything clean. Was there some special reason for doing it this way?

Don't forget New Mexico: Restoration work on former Santa Fe 4-8-4 #2926 is still moving forward, with the tender completed and painted (there's still a few things left to do like installing train and independent air brake hoses, fuel and water lines, and the trackside fuel fill piping, but not much else) and preparation for repairing the locomotive boiler now underway. There's a link to the official website in my sig; there you'll find status updates, a photo gallery (including photos of the original move from Coronado Park and the second - and considerably easier - move to our current location and photos of all work up to the present), directions to the work site, work hours (9 AM to about 4 PM M,W,Sat.; summer hours are 7:30 AM - 2 PM), membership and volunteering info, and lots of other information. Feel free to drop in during regular working hours and have a look; our members will be happy to give you a tour of the site and answer any questions.

What with the wind and dust in this "shadetree" environment we would have to clean them either way, so we avoided the inevitable mess when the cellars were turned upside down and lost all the Journal oil and left them dry until the very last moment.

Seems a tad optomistic.
