The linked Saul Nadler photo was actually taken in Ringoes. The Rt. 579 bridge under the Black River main, hit a few times recently by oversize trucks, is hidden by the locomotive and tender. Just above the pilot is a split rail fence; on the other side of the fence is the main, with the original 1854 station on the other side of the track. My part of the world, back then-

And yet another one.

For those of you that knew the photographer, Saul Nadler, he was an interesting railfan to say the least.

Work continues on 565! The gang wired the headlight up with a 120V system. Also they have started needle scaling the cylinders.

We actually finished needle scaling the engineer's side cylinder casting and coated it with rust inhibitor. I should start bringing my camera again so I can show before and after pictures.

I love the work the crew is doing in restoring 565! Where will she be on display when all is said and done?

There's talk of maybe putting it next to the sectioned locomotive but that's still quite a few years away. Anything can change.

Why do you have to spoil an honorable cosmetic restoration effort with a badly doctored photo of the headlight fixture - we know it is 565 with out the sophomoric effects!

It's not my photo. I spend more time doing what I'm doing in the first picture rather then what's going on in the second.

SO, Why even post the negative comment? I would assume the headlight will need to go back on the locomotive at some point, so why not test it and get it done now? Although I agree the picture quality isn't great, I would rather see that photo than none at all.

NS2110, keep posting the photos! For those of us unable to help its always great to see someone volunteering their time and the results of their efforts.

The photo in question was BADLY photoshopped. It wasn't simply a matter of poor resolution. The number 565 was photoshopped clumsily into the picture. And I agree 100% with Steamtown Observer on this one. Faking a photo does NOTHING but cheapen the efforts of the people doing the work.

The light itself was lit but somebody (whom I shall remain nameless) photoshopped the number in to cover up the bare marker board. Instead of slamming us on the internet, why not come down and pitch in a hand? I'm sure with the name SteamtownObserver you live close enough.

I think SO's posting raises the issue about how information is presented. If an image depicting anything about a project is obviously "bogused up" it does nothing to lend credibility, regardless how trivial you might think it.

I might also add that you should think carefully about your messages parting shot, and consider how that would encourage SO -- or anyone else seeing that posting-- to offer their time and assistance to your project.

You folks are doing good work on a worthy project. Keep the enthusiasm focused on the task at hand! (Better to have used that same computer and made up inserts for the numberboards and taken a "for real" photograph!)

Best Regards,

You're right about the way information was conveyed. I don't agree with the doctored picture being posted so I'm going to post the original picture taken by another crew member. I've talked to Len and told him not to edit any more pictures in this manner.

As for my closing comment, it wasn't a pot shot. It was an open invitation to come down to the roundhouse. I'd be more then happy to answer questions.
