Depending on your definition of "scary," I might venture MOST of them.

Of course, just how well they dealt with it is open to interpretation. Just shoving aside a loco with a broken cylinder saddle or piston is technically "dealing with it," though not very well.

But see the Baltimore Streetcar Museum example cited above. Now, granted, I'm told they had to send a motor across town for rewinding, at a steep price, but........

I wonder if it would be possible to start a company that rebuilds that stuff, like trolley traction motors and controllers? Not a big company of course, just a smallish operation with 4-5 employees and a reasonable size warehouse. Perhaps sell rebuilds on a swap out basis to musuems and small operators nationwide?........just thinking too much again!
back on topic.....When I was in high school I saw a slide rule for the first time.
dad tried to teach me how to use it, of course being a teenager, I was less than interested......I should have paid more attention.....
