A friend asked me about the San Francisco visit of the Flying Scotsman around 1966.

He recalls the steamer being unloaded from the Western Pacific's car barge Los Plumas.

Where did she come from? And what museum (in England?) has her now?

The Flying Scotsman isn't in a museum. It's still operating in England. As a matter of fact it was just recently rebuilt. Check out the web site...

Well, just before she arrived in SF, She came from the Oroville WP roundhouse where she had been serviced. The roundhouse was leased to Solano Railcar at the time. Not very long afterwards, the roundhouse burned down in a spectacular fire--caused, reportedly, by an electrical short. Solano railcar continued to use the site, and the turntable until the late '80s (the turntable is now at the V&T and is available, I hear)

The other postings are a bit more specific about before and current info on the FS.
