Images from Skagway of the 73 (Baldwin 1947). The loco makes runs on Monday and Friday to Fraiser where it turns on the loop. It hauls 6-7 cars.

A second steam loco is operable the number 69 (Baldwin 1907) It currently resides in the roundhouse but is expected to run in July.

The diesel shown is one of two that have been rebuilt and re-powered with British built Cummins V12 engines.

The rebuilt diesels (98-90) currently makes two runs to White Pass Summit per day hauling up to 16 cars and 500 people.

The older steam loco shown is the number 52. There is discussion about getting a coat of paint on her.

Thanks for sharing! You know a lot of us are narrow gauge fans.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Why Monday and Friday? Is this because of the cruise ship schedules?

p.s. Anyone notice what appears to be an oil catch basin under the hostling tracks in the last photo? Pretty sophisticated. Anyone else have similar facilities?

I had the pleasure of being able to ride the White Pass & Yukon Route while on a tour of Alaska in September of 2003. And the pictures that I got from this trip were absolutely stunning! I think I will try to post a few of them pretty soon.

Steve,

Due to all the oils and lubricants that are petroleum-based in a loco servicing facility, most of the new ones have to contain all stormwater and run-off and send them to an oil-water separator, which is most likely what this is. It does look like a nice set up with the rails installed via DF or Direct Fixation to the concrete pad which appears pitched or sloped toward the center drain.
