TVRM passenger cars at Chattanooga's Volunteer Army depot

Anyone know if the passenger cars pictured in the link still exist,if so it would be nice if these could be restored to run in the NS steam program. http://scanchattanooga.rrpicturearchive ... 440&Page=2

Several of the cars shown are privately owned, but most are hulks that supply parts for TVRM's operating fleet and are not part of the permanent collection. None are presently slated for restoration, however a few, such as the Pullman "Maitland", will eventually relocate to the museum site when track space and resources permit.

I seriously doubt NS & TVRM would want to use those old junky cars. Most or all of them would require a total rebuild. I’m sure they would rather use these passenger cars seen here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rsList.aspx?id=TVRM

Since TVRM is going to be busy with 630 and 4501 I was hoping it would be possible for Norfolk Southern to finance the rebuilding of a couple of these cars at a third party contractor like: http://www.ozarkmountainrailcar.com/mec ... rvices.htm

I kinda think that since this is a NS PR deal they would want the train to be all Tuscan Red with Norfolk Southern on every car.

NS bought 6 commuter coaches that are going to be rebuilt for the train set. Add that with the coaches they already own and you have a good train. I believe they also plan to require all the cars to be painted to match the NS office car fleet.

The 206 (ex-BN) baggage car is no longer owned by the Atlanta Chapter. It was sold to the Blueridge Scenic in North GA a few years ago. They just have not painted the car.

The train set I see being used would be as follows:

Steam Locomotive
WT-51
F-units some combination of 2 or 4.
NS 40 boxcar converted to power train if Fs are not used
NS coaches 26, 28, 29
NS newly purchased commuter cars
NS 27 exhibit car

I would not look for Buena Vista or the dome car to be regularly used. Also, do not expect to see private cars tacked onto the train either. Think UP operations as far as PVT cars go.

These are just my opinions based on what I have heard and read.

Where did NS buy these cars? From what I understand, NJ Transit retired their Comet IIIs, so maybe NS got some of those?

My math says that's only 11-12 cars. 4501 won't need those pesky F-units if that's the case.

Regarding the NS purchase of commuter cars, I have heard that they were cars that had been converted from C&O 1600-series coaches and are already 480V equipped.

Sounds like the old Pittsburgh PATrain cars that had been lingering about. Where had they been hiding since Conn DOT had stopped using them?

At least a few of them went to Adirondack: the control cab cars and possibly a few coaches.

At 90+ years old I dont think she could handle 11 to 12 cars without some assistance....
