Time for an update.
We had a bit of a delay for three weeks last month for logistical and personal holidays etc.
The main work has been centered on repair the side skirts and the rear of the tender tank. When the Locomotoive was beginning to look tired it was simply cleaned and given another coat of paint. Over the years the the layers of paint on the rear of the tender broke down flaked off and rust began to form. This past weekend saw the careful removal of the paint down to bare steel in preparation for priming and repainting in CN green. The rear numberplate has been removed for restoration and repaint as well.

Richard,
She is coming along slowly. From outside of the fence looking in there doesnt appear to be much change and in some areas she seems worse but we are starting at one end and working forward so by the end of the fall she should really start to look much better.

August update..
Week two and we now have the first coat of CNR green on the rear of the tender. What a boost for the project and a lift in spirits for the crew after alot of really hard work.. I can't say enough about our hard working group... They are a great bunch of guys.. The interest in the public this past couple of weeks has really increased with lots of praise for our efforts. The general feeling is that they are pleased to see her being so lovingly looked after..
A couple of pictures..

I do hope this continues to improve her state of repair and longevity. CNR and CPR stem locomotives are just beautiful locomotives, in every sense of the words. More, please!

Appreciate the comments guys! Once the rear of the tender is done we are going to redo the front of the locomotive as that is another area that is really bad but gets the most interest from the public and pictures taken as well. She will look alot better with clean metal painted gloss black with appropriate trim coloring,

How are you doing with sheet metal decay and other major issues? I recall you did quite a bit of work last season. Removal of leaves, sand, anything that holds water would be a priority.

We have installed some new metal on the top of the boiler jacket where water ingress and corrosion was a concern. Our next area of repair and restoration following the tender work is the front of the locomotive as there are som issues there with weather and metal work.

Yesterday we opened up the smokebox for the first time since she was in service. nice and dry inside with no water anywhere or any water related damage. The usual garbage was found but I have to say that finding a string of Christmas lights was a surprise!!

I think he's referring to the superheater units. Only the ends of the tube holes are visible. Weren't the tubes removed to clean, coat and preserve the interior?

Hi all from a fellow 6060 series presrevationist. I'm a member of the Rocky Mountian Rail Society (http://www.6060.org) and spend my weekends helping to keep her running. What a great thing you are doing. So nice to see her getting the tlc she she deserves.
