Nice photos. But concerning the lineup of C&NW diesels, isn't there at least one missing? Doesn't the museum have another GP7?

Yes, but last year at Diesel Days it was at the far end of that shop getting work, I'd assume it's still there.

For those who don't know, IRM's other GP-7 is C&NW 1518 which is the very first GP-anything built. IRM also has SD-7 SP 1518 (ironically the same number) which is the first SD-anything.

As I recall C&NW 4160 (the GP-7 shown) was supposed to be parted out to fix up other units but after shop forces were able to get it up and running (after something like ten years of storage by UP) with surprising swiftness the armchair folks were already discussing what livery to paint it. I do not know if it has been officially reprieved but I do see it's listed on the website roster. I do not speak for IRM; just passin' along what I've read or heard.

yes it has been acquired officially, and it began its life as a Rock loco, so the current talk is to take it back to that
details and official info from the folks in the diesel dept

By the way, we passed the hat at the night photo session for participants to contribute to a crew tip for staying out with us. The IRM night crew turned right around and donated the tip back into the restoration funds for the two C&NW units in the collection that need work (numbers not in front of me; the second and third units from the right in the photo at the top of this thread).
