Ditch lights would only be required in Canada.

Time for an in depth investigation into Ditch lights I think? It seems that no one really knows for sure what the requirements are. I've heard that 'they' don't apply to steam.

The FRA requirements for Ditch Lights do not apply to Steam Locomotives or Historical Equipment.

UP doesn't have them on their locomotives so there would be no reason for NS to put them on 611, 1218, 4501, 630, 610, 2716, 765, 750, 290, 154, 152 and, well, you get the picture.
