We are wondering what happened to the whistle on 6069? It was there at the time of the last repaint which was in the late 90's and is missing... Does anyone know or have any information on where it could be? Did it go to another group or does someone have it on their mantlepiece? We would like it back no qustions asked...
Look forward to any help as it would be greatly appreciated..

This is why the jewelry needs to be in a locked cabinet, and copies made from steel.
If it's borrowed, it's almost certain to be "on permanent loan", in some jerk's basement.

Thanks Richard. It disappeared sometime after 1997.

Try running an ad in the paper indicating same:

"If returned, no questions asked"

Its worked more than once!

Weren't other parts of 6069 removed for safekeeping? Do you have them?

Chris.

What we did for 1218 at VMT and 1134 at Portsmouth was very effective for display, fabricating dummy whistles. We had access to the original N&W drawings, and had the valve castings done at a local foundry. They are solid and unmachined, with the actuating rod made of flat stock and welded on. The (whistle) bells are fabicated from appropriate size pipe and flat stock, all held together by steel rod. A little brass paint, and voila.... a display whistle. It looks perfectly authentic from 5 feet away. The best thing about it is when (not if) the lowlife scavengers show up, there's nothing there that's worth stealing. You could even stamp it "stolen from CNR 6069".

Thanks Gary,
Any chance of some pictures of your replica whistle? We have been talking about building a replica for now and would be good to see an example.

Peter, This is the only shot I could find that shows one of them online. I'll ask around if anyone has a close-up.

Peter,

Steve (Mr. Pullman) sent me some pictures of 1134's whistle on the workbench in Rick's shop. (Rick is our welding & fabrication guru). PM me with your regular email address and I'll forward them.
