What's up with the Steam Central website? Is John Craft on vacation or is it the lack of steam information. I really miss the updates.

Vacation, Hah! JAC's been a little busy with the old gainful employment thing lately. I'm sure he'll get around to something for June soon.

VACATION? What's that? ;-)

I've got a project kicking my butt right now, and also busy over the last few weeks with preparations for our neighborhood's annual fundraising arts festival (I'm on the association board). We also did a bunch of work in the back yard to prepare for a party the weekend of the festival, and we've been entertaining friends before it gets too damn hot to enjoy it.

I won't even get into the lightning strike that killed my DSL modem, router, two computers, printer . . . oh wait, I just did, didn't I?

We'll get back on schedule in a week or two. There's lots of news in my inbox.

Putting big steam (and lawns) aside for the moment, midwestern steam museum/tourist railroad updates are as follows (or are needed for):

1. Little River Railroad will NOT be running 4-6-2 #110 this season due to an inability to work out a new track lease.

2. It appears that Mid-Continent will be steamless again this season. Can anyone confirm?

3. Silver Creek & Stephenson in Freeport, Illinois had a flue problem on their Heisler on the last operating day last year. Work was to be performed over the winter but no new 2002 schedule has been posted. Will #2 operate this year?

4. IRM was still attempting to get SLSF 2-10-0 #1630 ready for this summer.

5. L&N 4-6-2 #152 reportedly may be ready for operation this season. Any definite word?

6. Kettle Moraine "ceased" operations last fall. Any word on whether 2-6-2 #9 or Heisler #3 will be operated elsewhere this year?

Very nice but I expected to see a venerable Dodge truck in it somewhere.

Inman Park? 5 Points?

Here you go, Dave - just for you. Grill and hood hinges in the background, engine disassembled under the workbench. Anybody got a few hundred hours they can loan me? ;-)

> Inman Park? 5 Points?

SteamCentral World Headquarters is located in the southern part of Virginia-Highland, very close to the "venerable" Clermont Hotel & Lounge and about a block from the original Atlanta & Charlotte Air Line main down to Joint Terminal. We made an offer on a house in Inman Park before buying this one (our first and, hopefully, only), but the owner had unreasonable expectations. We tell everyone we're in the eighth year of a two-year restoration ;-)

Any time Iron Dave is passing through, feel free to drop by - we're in the book.

And Taylor, thanks kindly for the compliment.

Sure it is - it just isn't that awful orange any more. (And the paint job cost more than twice what the whole truck cost new . . . )

It does look a bit better than it did at the wedding, doesn't it? ;-)

John,

Good to hear from you!

Your house and Dodge both look very nice but...where is the plinthed Southern Railways steam locomotive at the headquarters of Steam Central?

Oh c'mon James, you know any Southern Railway loco that I owned would have to be fully operational! ;-) And of course it would be in the roundhouse out back . . . probably in the stall next to the truck!

(Hmmm, a roundhouse-shaped garage - now wouldn't THAT be a conversation piece . . . )

I'm very disappointed that everything you own isn't BLACK!
