Hello,

From a preservation perspective, can anyone share with me what resources are available for a research project with potential preservation ramifications? I'm trying to find out whether Seaboard Air Line's Alco RSC2's ever ran in North Carolina, and if so, which locomotive(s). Google hasn't turned up any ah-hah's, and I have posted the same question elsewhere, but thought I'd try here as well.

Many thanks for any info.

Not sure this will count, but in SCL days (1970-71) I shot sets of the RSC2s and RSC3s in Durham, NC on several occasions. This was due to some very light rail on the branch into Durham. A brakeman pointed out some 56 lb rail in a siding not far out of town and claimed there was rail as light as 65 lb on the branch itself. Most of the sets I saw were 3 units, sometimes just 2. SCL kept an EMD switcher in town, but due to axle loads it had to be brought in via a different route.

John,

Not sure if you've had access to the Warren Calloway photo CD's of the SAL or SCL but they are invaluable in figuring things out. While I don't have the actual SAL CD I did find a sample photo of a pair of SAL RSC2s in Henderson, NC in the green scheme. If I'm reading between the lines of your post right this could turn into a very interesting project.

Good Luck,

Thanks to all of you, especially Kevin! Whether or not this materializes into something remains to be seen...right now, it's just about info-gathering.

I don't have my P&N book handy, but i seem to recall ALCO units running on the P&N NC and SC after the wire came down.........RS2, not sure. Maybe somebody with it handy can look it up?
