I don't know if it is wise to have a thief come back and fix what they stole/broke. The more time they are on the property, the more time they have to case what other stuff can be easily stolen. Even if they don't take anything, they could always spread the word on the street.

Agreed. Put 'em to work removing graffiti or cleaning trash from the roadways instead. I might feel differently if these were kids, but they're adults who probably already have records and who were likely trying to pay for a drug habit. We've already had to deal with having 2926's tender tagged and I have no desire to let the stupid SOB and his "homies" (who have already defaced other railroad properties and equipment in the area) anywhere near our worksite (not to mention that several of our members would love to "demonstrate" to these scumbags why snooping around what is essentially an industrial site is such a bad idea, including yours truly!!).

Love all the talk of punishment. Here in Lorain county you can steal a mile of rail and 5 years later convicted of a felony, not spend 5 minutes in jail , judge blows off fining him to run it out where we couldn't file a civil suit, 2 days left we file, he arbatrates, agrees to pay, This was August. 2 lawyers later and today's court gets moved out 2 more weeks, The 3rd lawyer he hired since August had a doctors appointment today to find out about a health problem.
The man owns a demolition company with more than enough to pay and we are moving forward on claiming property.
The court system around here is about a waste. Need a few scary people to pay him a visit.
