One of the gang painted over the graffiti. We think that the paint we used on the locomotive may have held up to being power washed, however the paint that is on there now isn's specifically designed for that. Eventually paint will be applied that is designed to withstand being power washed. As well, since the boiler jacket still has to be applied, we are not too concerend about the paint job on the boiler shell.

Thank you on all accounts. After all that work, it's a shame the miscreants have so little pride in their town, heritage, and themselves. Another case of "the good guys" cleaning up after the "bad".

Things have been somewhat slow since 6167's move back in June, however this month we were able to paint the tires on the driving wheels and engine truck and cab ledges, as well as clean and paint the chaffing plate on the back of the cab, and install all 6 driving box cellars.

The latest news and photos from Guelph:

http://www.trainweb.org/j.dimech/journal/101007.html

We have reapplied the steps to the cab, cylinder head and valve chest covers, installed the engine drawbar pin, and a few other odd jobs.

One of the neat things we did was weld nuts on the end of the drawbar pins so that we could thread an eye-bolt on and lift the pins in place using a comealong. No more jacks or crushed fingers!

Photos of Boiler Jacket Progress from November and December 2011. The works season has ended for the time being and will resume in the spring.

http://www.trainweb.org/j.dimech/journal/111100.html - November

http://www.trainweb.org/j.dimech/journal/111200.html - December

In the November photos you can see how we have adapted "cat drinking bowls" to fir around the washout plugs. I'm told they did the same thing with CPR 2816. Stainless Steel makes everything look nice....

How do you guys manage to keep working in the Canadian outdoors in December? I saw her in October and she's really come along. Nice tribute to a "twilight of steam Queen". Maybe 6218 will get brought back from the edge in 2012? What you've done is a great example for other park locomotives.

Actually, the city hired a contractor to do the jacket, so you'll have to ask them how they cope with the cold....

Actually, this has been quite a mild winter so far in Southern Ontario. Very little snow with only a hand full of days with the temperature below freezing. It was about 9C today which translates into about 48F.
