Saturday, September 25th

On Saturday, the 702 was switched off the maintenance track in Phoenica and mated up to the 701 for an air brake test, which it passed. A couple more things need to be done to the 702 this week, such as installing the west end bumper plate, and it should be ready for service on Friday the 1st. Participating were Earl and Mimi Pardini, Al Johnson and Dick Wilhelm.

Sunday, September 26th

On Sunday, Mark Glaser reports from Cornell Street:

"On Sunday, the Cornell Yard crew cut to legnth and fully adzed (cut bottom profiles on) 13 bridge timbers.These ties will replace those no longer serviceable on the west end of C-9 (Esopus Bridge @MP 5), 37 timbers remain to be cut and when complete will provide coverage for approx. 3 rail legnths on this side of the bridge. The floor of passenger flat 278 was stained, WX-401 ran a load of stone under the NYST bridge later in the day. Sunday's crew included Earl and Mimi Pardini, Bob Blake, Joe Marsh, and Mark Glaser. "

Train crew for Sunday was Dave Heick, John Watson, Bob McDonald and Doug Senterman. Ed Palmatier was ticket agent.

Ernie,
You say that 3 rail lengths will be supported by the new timbers you were cutting. What about the rest of the bridge - or is it in good-enough condition for the move of the cars?

Phil,

This should take care of the two girder bridges on the west end which are each about 50 feet. The truss is 212 feet, and tie condition is better, at least good enough to move the cars.

FYI, the bridge timbers we are using came from the Poughkeepsie Highland bridge. At least some will be returned to railroad use.

Our leaf season will open with two trains - one leaving Phoenicia at 12:10pm and another at 2pm. Coach 702 will make its first revenue run, and our new ramp in Phoenicia will be open for use.

Our trains will leave Phoenicia at 10am, 11:50am, 1:40pm and 3:30pm.

George Peck will lead a crew Saturday morning starting at 9am in Phoenicia. He plans to perform work in the Phoenicia yard.

The 702 crew will be reorganizing materials from the 702 renovation.


Sunday, October 3rd

Our trains will leave Phoenicia at 10am, 11:50am, 1:40pm and 3:30pm.

Cornell Street will open at 10am Sunday. 400/2361 work will continue at Cornell Street.

Tuesday, October 5th

Joe Marsh is tentatively planning another work session on the cars on 209, getting them ready for movement to Cornell Street. His crew usually meets at 10am. Please contact him directly if you would like to join him.


Exact Date To Be Determined - Week of October 4th to 8th

Upon arrival of materials, Earl Pardini will be issuing another "all hands call" to finish the Mt. Tremper roof. Keep an eye out for an announcement of which day this will take place.

Earl Pardini has declared a flood emergency on the railroad. As of 7:30am, water is up to the wheels on the railroad equipment in the Phoenicia yard, though it is beginning to recede.

The full extent of flood damage on the railroad cannot be determined until the water has receded in Phoenicia, and Earl had had a chance to inspect the line all the way to Cold Brook. Train service may need to be cancelled today.

Earl needs ALL HANDS who are available today to go to Phoenicia and assist with the cleanup, which will be extensive.

Wednesday September 29th

At 209, Joe Marsh, Dick Ray, Al Howes, Al Schoessow and Connie Johnson continued work resurfacing journals on the cars stored on 209.

Thursday, September 30th

702 Crew, from Al Johnson: "Ed Palmatier and Terry W. worked on installing cabinet locks and latches and I installed the grab iron. Al and I cleaned items out of the car and moved them either to the boxcar, or to the caboose. George installed the buffer plate and the cover plate above the buffer plate and then installed the lock set on the West end door. I wiped down the walls and washed the floor."


Friday, October 1st

On Friday - disaster struck. The Phoenicia yard flooded and a washover occurred at view curve and a washout near Dorian's. Regular train service was cancelled.

An all-hands call was issued at 7:30am and a large crew turned out to help cleanup. The crew included Earl and Mimi Pardini, George Peck, Al Schoessow, Joe Marsh, Al Johnson, Al Howes, Neil Isabelle and others.

October 2nd, 2010

The 702 crew continued working on the 702. From Al Johnson: "We washed the windows inside and outside, cleaned out remaining items from inside the car, tightened bolts and nuts on the truck assemblies and installed the lockset on the East end door."

Earl Pardini, Joe Marsh, George Cook and Mark Glaser worked on insalling a new roof at Mt. Tremper. They completed 1/2 the roof by the end of the day.

On Thursday, we will have two crews working:

At Mt. Tremper, Earl Pardini will be putting on the backside of the new roof on the station. His crew will start at 10am at Mt. Tremper.

At Route 209, Joe Marsh will be leading a crew repairing the journals and hand brakes on the last of the cars in storage there, and beginning work on the air brakes. His crew will start at 10am.


Friday, October 8th

On Friday, Al Howes and Joe Marsh will meet at Mt. Tremper station at 10am to finish up any remaining work on the station or platforms.

We will be running two trains Friday - one leaving Phoenicia at 12:10pm and another at 2pm. We will be putting our newly moved ramps at Mt. Tremper into service.

Earl Pardini, Joe Marsh, George Cook, Harry Jameson, Mimi Pardini, John Prestopino and Mark Glaser moved the Mt. Tremper caboose platform to the other side of the tracks to be used as an exit platform from the train. They also removed and cleared the panel track and did other improvements at the station.

On Friday Joe Marsh, Earl Pardini, Blaise Schactel and Al Howes finished work on the Mt. Tremper exit ramp.

The train crew for 10/9/10 was Al Schoessow Engineer, Walt Otto conductor, John Prestopino Assisstant conductor, Doug Senterman brakeman and Dave Hilliard car attendant.

Train crew was Dave Heick as engineer, Ray Farrell as conductor and Dan Howard and Bill Kaba as assistant conductors.

Ticket agents at Mt. Tremper were Thom Johnson, Peter Fluchere and Tom Healy with station assistance from Ed Palmatier. Working the lot and crowd were Harry Jameson, Earl Pardini, Mark Glaser and Steve Gollow. On dispatcher duty was Joe Logiudice. Ticket agents in Phoenicia were Gary Lowe and Neil Isabelle.

George Bain sold food benefiting the boy scouts at a special stand in Mt. Tremper.


Sunday, October 10th

The train crew was; Engineer John Patane and Earl Pardini. Conductor, John Watson, Assistant was Walt Otto, Car attendants were Doug Senterman, Gary Lowe and Ed Winstanley.

Ticket agent at Phoenicia was Dan Howard. Ticket agent at Mt. Temper was Tom Healy and Peter Fluchere with station assistance of Carol Seitz. Crowd control and parking was; Harry Jameson, Earl Pardini, Al Shoessow, Mark Glaser, and Bob Blake. Flagger and ramp attendant was John Prestopino. Joe Marsh made balloons for kids on the train.
