Everyone,

Scrapped so far is RS12 Number 1202 and 1201. Both units are now history. The 1200 as I understand it is to be cut up this week too. So sad in that this engine was somewhat operable in 1995.

Just reporting the news in Clearfield.

I'm sure this news is painful for you. Just curious-would the owners of the Baldwins have even entertained the thought of selling the locomotives, either intact or as parts sources, or was the scrapper's offer too good to refuse? I admit, besides SMS in New Jersey I don't know of any other Baldwin strongholds in this day and age.

Even though we respect the right of owners to do with their property as they please, the preservationist in us wishes for a better outcome.

Sad news indeed. I was hoping that perhaps #1200 might be spared as I knew from your past reports, that it was the closest to being runnable. This makes me somewhat worried about the number 12. I'm sure a number of museums would like to have her, including ours. Hopefully she will eventually find a good preservation home. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW, what about the old boxcar and caboose that were once on the property? Have these been cut up too?

SMS did approach them a few years back, but were turned down. E&LS has a few RS-12s also, mostly ex-Seaboard units.

The recession has really put a squeeze on everyone and unfortunately the victims have been locomotives that are viewed as scrap value instead of the historic value that they hold for future generations. I really wish there was a way to save the 1200.

Everyone,

#1200 has met its fate with the scrappers torch now. They will probably be finished with the clean up by Wednesday next week at the rate they are going. I guess this makes all the photos of her and her sisters more valuable.

Here is a photo of the boxcar and caboose taken this month. They were pushed back under the shelter once the RS12 was cut up.

Any plans for that B&O C27-A caboose? It's a pretty modern car, as they were built by FGE in the summer of 1980... It'd be nice to see it cleaned up...

I'm not sure who might be able to comment on the future plans of these cars? I have been told that these were owned by the local NRHS Chapter, but I really don't know if this is the case. I presume this would be the Chapter that operated out of Paris, KY?

Here is a photo of 2101 in August, very sad indeed as these three Baldwins had been kept undercover / inside for so many years. The boxcar can be seen in the background.
