Several of the state index sites are set up separately from this main database, such as

Various groups and individuals have websites or roster pages devoted to surviving equipment or structures of a particular railroad. I've seen them for all diesels, PRR equipment preserved, AT&SF equipment in preservation, etc.

Off the top of my head I am reminded of the EXCELLENT
ATSF website listing at stsf.railfan.net.
This is for the former Santa Fe Railway history or AT&SF .
There are listings of surviving depots, coaling towers, and water facilities.
