The local Historical assocation would like to preserve and use it as a RR history museum.
A local three rail O gauge train club is also interested.http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/4/322259

The structure looks in decent shape. And apparently (according to the story) only needs minor repairs to make it ship-shape. What I didn't get was who currently owns the building.

The St Joe Valley MRR club is in a building looking similar to that, its on the old NYC main in Mishawaka. it was built in 1882. You are not tearing that down.

It is owned by Mittel who rents out spots of it to renters to store things as well as one end used for the club.

Its a wood structure but built with very solid and large lumber, like any railroad freight stucture would need to be built, solid, errant derailing cars would have a tough time taking it out.

The NYC (NS now) flies right by it, perfect spot for a MR club.

Federal funding for what?

is it the Amtrak station?

They're talking about the freight station which is close to the passenger station. Tearing it down will make room for a bigger parking lot. Think of how great the world would be if we just torn down everything old and historic and made millions and millions of extra parking spaces.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

put a restaurant on one end (station side) let the hobby group the other end.

A passenger station is a great attraction location for things of interest.

Here's the building in question in a recent photo by Mike Thomas, courtesy of the Railroad Stations of Pennsylvania database at http://www.west2k.com/pastations/pastations.htm, maintained by Dan West (to whom I am repeatedly grateful):

This is barely big enough for a model railroad club or coffee shop. Forget about a restaurant--not enough square footage.

This is NOT to be confused with the more "majestic" passenger station nearby, which suffers from grade separation issues:
