Does a list or website exist for other EL commuter or long distance equipment? Erie Stillwell and Lackawanna Boonton cars as Howard mentioned were the mainstay of many tourist railroads. I can come up with about 20 long distance cars - quite a lot since they were out of the business before Amtrak might have acquired any.

Hmmm.

Never mind me. <;-)

Well I can probably put a list together and maybe I should. There are several cars that I would like to find out if they exist:

1. Any Erie "President Series" Pullman 10-6 sleepersother than the ones that were converted by CN into Dayniter coaches

2. Any DL&W ACF 10-6 sleepers

3. DL&W "Phoebe Snow" coaches other than the one in Austin, TX and the one in Iowa.

4. Any Erie American series 6-6-4 other than the one at the Mad River & Nickel Plate Museum or the Greenwood, SC museum.

There is a pair I believe in Hartwell, GA. I don't have the numbers handy, but may have some photos filed away.

They are both in poor shape.

Yes, both are motor cars. Hartwell 101 is stored derelict in Hartwell while Hartwell 102 is stored in poor, but apparently largely intact, condition at Airline. I'd be very interested to know the original Lackawanna numbers of these cars but have never been able to locate that information.

In 1985 the New Georgia Railroad, operated by the Georgia Building Authority, went to Mr. Fred Pollock who was operating steam excursions on the Hartwell. Mr. Pollock had started running excursions on the Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad in Woodward, OK but had moved the equipment to the Hartwell. The NGRR bought four coaches and a GE center cab (GE, 1943, bn 17997) that became the shop switcher. Two of the coaches were EL MU's, Nos. 4602 and 4627, which operated as NGRR Nos. 1201 and 1202, respectively. I seem to recall they still had traction motors, and definitely had the pantographs when they arrived at the NGRR, but these were soon removed by the NGRR mechanical staff as the cars were being fixed up for the new operation out of Atlanta. Both were sold fairly early, in 1987, but where they went I do not know.

The Wikipedia list shows 4602 currently unaccounted for, while the 4627 is shown as owned by Alberta Prairie Railroad Excursions.

For the MKT fans, the other 2 coaches purchased from Mr. Pollock were MKT 904 (379) and 911 (884), which operated on the NGRR as 1102 and 1101, respectively. I recall these cars as being in excellent condition, and when the assets of the NGRR were auctioned on August 24, 1995, the 1101/911 went to the Kentucky Railway Museum where I suppose it is still located. What happened to the 1102/904 is one of those things that makes you want to scream. It happened to be in the shop off its trucks when operations shut down. Instead of spending the money to get the car back together, it was auctioned as "needs trucks" and sold for only $1,500 while the intact 1101/911 sold for $18,500! The couplers and trucks for 1102/904 went with Greg Dodd to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, and I'm pretty sure the total for the trucks and body was less than what the 1101 brought. The SR 10-6 sleeper Rappahannock River, also off trucks in the shop, was ultimately given to the man who bought the 1102. He moved both car bodies to his farm property near Hazlehurst, Georgia. As far as I know they are still there.

If anyone knows who bought the two MU cars from NGRR in 1987 I would like to know.

Fascinating information! All I know about the APRE fleet comes from a 2003 copy of the Canadian Trackside Guide that I happened upon a few years back. It claims that MU cars 4627 and 4628 were both acquired by APRE in 1990 from Central Western Railway (prior owner of APRE's trackage), where they had been numbered 978 and 934 respectively, and that CWR had acquired them in 1989 from the "Huntsville Railway," where they had also been numbered 978 and 934. Recently, during some cross-referencing, it occurred to me that 4628 is definitely not the number of either of APRE's cars, as 4628 is at R&GVRRM! So I wonder whether the two APRE cars might in fact be 4627 and 4602, and whether the "Huntsville Railway" listing might actually refer to NGRR and/or Hartwell RR. Admittedly, this is a rather shaky theory. Anyone have any other info on the APRE cars?

Note: whatever their numbers there are definitely two EL MU cars on APRE; both can be seen at http://media.canada.com/e637a970-1b59-4aea-9c94-3b0370a8045f/Gang.jpg, easily identified by the vents over the side doors.

I understand SDRM also has five Lackawanna motors. Where did the motors, pantagraphs, controls, switch group and other traction equipment go?
