Wesley,

This is from memory (I do not have a roster available) but MARC received five Metra cars that were originally Rock Island cab cars.....The ex cab cars can be determined by the "tomb room" where the cab originally was on the upper level....

I was in an ex-cab today, confirmed by the doors to the "tomb".

[quote="SZuiderveen"]And of course, how come no one mentioned these runs behind steam on the CNW?

Steve,
If you are going to count latter-day fantrip service, 765 also pulled C&NW bi-levels a time or two, I believe to St. Francis (Milwaukee) and Janesville, WI.

The Burlington used their gallery cars for years behind 4960 and 5632. This was particularly true during the final year of steam in 1966 with 4960 as the ridership requirements could be met by running cars that seated between 145 and 150 passengers per car. If you count the "Q" fantrip days, then any of the cars delivered prior to July 1966 could have operated behind steam with the exception of the cab cars which were never used on a fantrip.

Attached is a shot I took of 4960 on the wye at Denrock, IL, on the final "Q" steam trip on July 17, 1966. Other than the heavyweight power car on the head-end, an open gondola which was attached to a heavyweight chair car, a heavyweight diner and a 6-6-4 sleeper which was used for "toilet" service (Silver Latrine as we called it), the rest of the train was filled out with gallery cars.
