Location of operational Alco 244 powered locomotives?

Make that a 567B in the 211. If only it had gotten a 567C :)

There was the RS-C something from New Hope that is stored at the Danbury Rwy Museum, but I don't think she is serviceable any longer.

At Mid-Continent, the prime mover of our RSC-2 MILW 988 is back up to operation, but we need to get a new governor installed and the electrical system is still in need of work due to to the fact that it's been cobbled together and redone a few times in its service life. The trucks on it are also sent out for overhaul due to worn out parts and cleaning out after our flood, but we are still awaiting donations for work to commence on them.

Correct - same reason the Tioga Central 506 does not make the list since it was re-engined with a 251. I think there may be another RS with an EMD engine some where but they don't count.

Reportedly one of the FA2's in south jersey has at least had the engine running even it it didn't (or couldn't) move.

Havn't done an complete tally but it seems there are about 15 presently that you could pull out of storage, put fuel and water in and start this summer.
Sure there are a few others that are a couple years worth of work away from being capable of running.

The former Utah Railway RSD5, now painted NKP, at Portland is 244 powered.

All ex CN/VIA FPA's have the 251 engines.

PSRM, Campo, CA, has an ALCO MRS-1, USAF 2104. It is "operational" in that the prime mover and electrical system operate, and can move on its own power. It is presently out of service for some "body work." Prior to being acquired by PSRM, its last duty station was Vandenberg AFB, right on the coast. The diamond plate running boards accumulated a lot of rust, and finally got to the point where we had to take it out of service. The old diamond plate has all been cut off, and new should be installed in the next several months. Then give it a new paint job, and it will return to service.

We also have an RS-2, ex-Nevada Northern, out of service. We have a "new" prime mover to be installed, but that is probably a ways off.

I also beleive there is an rsc-2 or 3 a1a-a1a in Danbury CT, I think that is owned by Mr. Ed Bowers, I have No Clue of its history or its potential to operate, I will bow over to Mr. Pincus on that , and hope he can clear that up

Danbury Also has a rs3/DeWitt from the MTA/CDOT, although another transplant i also here she leaks oil ,"alot more oil than a well worn alco244"

Is the RS-2 at Campo the unit that was painted in "Santa Fe zebra stripes"? It was a "tribute" unit honoring Santa Fe "system unique" 2099. I remember seeing it at a special event in San Diego about 20 years ago.

I believe the Batten Kill Railroad in upstate New York has at least two and perhaps three unaltered RS-3's.

Re the NY&LE cab units, the 6764 is an MLW FPA-4, built with a 12-251B engine. The trailing unit in the photo (I forget it's number-) is an FPA-2, that MLW rebuilt with a 12-251B engine, replacing it's original 12-244. It and sister FPA-2s 'donated' their 244 engines to the four RSC-24s.

PGE 561 should have a 12-244. I don't believe PGE/BC Rail ever repowered any RS- or RSC-3s.

Bob: You are correct. I is still in its zebra stripes as "ATSF 2098." It was painted to honor ATSF at a "Railfair" we put on in 1988. Originally it was Nevada Northern's KC#103. Later it went to Kennecott's Bingham Canyon mine in Utah where it was numbered 907. It really needed paint when we got it, and the museum went with the ATSF paint job.

About 10 years ago, one of our engineers wasn't paying enough attention to the temperature gauge, and it greatly overheated.
