We just broke this story over on TRAINS Magazine.

Yesterday we completed the sale of McCloud Ry #25. After negotiations with 3 potential buyers over the past couple months, the #25 is heading to her new home on the Oregon Coast Scenic RR in Garibaldi, OR.

In a twist of fate, this is the 3rd time I have sold #25. She was first sold to the Great Western Railroad Museum in the mid 1980's and then back to Jeff Forbis and the McCloud Ry in 1996. She never left the property in any of those sales and she continued to see service until her tubes expired in 2002. She was restored to operable condition in 2008 for a movie job that never came to fruition.

McCloud #25 will be left in her McCloud River RR paint and lettering in her service on the OCSRR. OCSRR will be able to expand their operations with the addition of #25 to their roster. Currently OCSRR uses ex: Curtis Lumber Heisler #2 in their summer operations out of Garibaldi on the Oregon Coast. OCSRR is in the prices this month of moving the ex: SP Tillamook Depot to the Blue Heron Cheese Factory complex along side HWY 101 north of Tillamook. Once the depot is installed there, the plan is to extend track from the Port Of Tillamook Bay RR to the new depot site and have a second point of departure for the OCSRR steam trains.

Movement of #25 to Oregon is planned to take place in March with the 1925 ALCO entering service on OCSRR in May of this year.

Something to look forward to on the Oregon Coast; my wife and I stayed at the Garibaldi RV Park a few years ago. She enjoyed the seacoast and I rode behind the OCSR Heisler to Rockaway Beach (namesake of the Long Island area made famous by the Ramones). There was also a Blues festival next to the RV park, so it was both a musical and a ferroequinological visit.

Thanks for the info Martin!

Great news, she should be a good fit up there! I'll hope to see her next summer.

Great news, I’d had no idea this was in the works! I live in WA state and while it’s a pretty long drive to get there, it can be done as a (very long) day trip. I’ve been looking for an excuse to ride that line, now I’ll have yet another one as I’ve always wanted to ride behind that locomotive.

I hope 25 is going to a good home where she will be well-protected from the elements and properly cared for. I don't see this as a good thing to celebrate, as she is leaving her home since new. Not many short-line engines have that kind of history. At one time 25 was supposedly "given" to the citizens of McCloud--not that I would want her mounted on a plinth to deteriorate. I wonder how the news is going over in McCloud?
It's so sad to watch my childhood railroad disappear!
