As your moderator, as the one of the three or four who approve new members, I have noticed that for the last two weeks most of our new members are from Great Britain... I assume that something was posted on British preservations sites that has brought you here... at least a few have mentioned the discussion about the A-1 Boiler...

Since the early 1990's there has been an NRHS chapter on that side of the pond and I think their main interest is American railroads.

Unusual that their focus is american railroads. I have become just as crazy about british steam engines as I have American engines.

So Far the Main Headlines over their in the Preservation of Mainline Steam have been

A. Tornado
B. The ongoing return to steam of Flying Scotsman
C. Return to steam of 6023 Great Western King Class.

I'm reasonably sure no other part of the world has as many preserved railways per 100 square miles as Great Britain. Even those of us whose prime interest is electric railways can ride the World's Oldest Electric Railway (Volk's in Brighton), an extensive third rail suburban network (more mileage than Sacramento Northern and Chicago Aurora & Elgin combined) south of London, and electric lines of two different gauges on the Isle of Man (which also has steam and horse powered lines). When does the next plane leave for Gatwick or Heathrow?
