Aside from bringing stock back, the only foreign stock I'd have the slightest interest in, is a 23000 TGV trainset. Oh look at that, they work on 1500VDC.

I do believe several engines have been brought back from Central & South America.

In the 1980s, a former Detroit PCC was returned by the grace of the People of Mexico.

in responce to the question about what % of railway equipment is made in usa, about 2 or 3 years ago i read about buckeye castings going bankrupt. at that time they had 60% of us railcar parts market, buckeye was the manfacture of trucks, couplers and related equipment. to fill the gap, china flooded the void. at that time, i believe some former employees were trying to restart operations. the bush family owned this company for about 60 years, i am employed by a class 1 rry, before that i drove tractor trailer for 10 years, prior to that i worked in heavy manfacturing, that company was in buisness for over 100 years and employed 700 people, untill ivan boskey played with the stock. i've watched jobs leave, plant machiney be exported or scraped, now buildings are being torn down. china is at war with us and they are winning, i wish the employees at buckeye well.

More and more of the freight cars I see say 'Hencho en Mexico' on the side..meaning they were built in Mexico. Gondolas, and boxcars mostly.
