Some photos of U.S. Potash 2-8-0 No. 1, displayed at Carlsbad, NM. Photos meant for modeling, but show the engine's condition well. Donated to city in 1956. This 3' gauge industrial RR ran into early 1970s, with 6-axle GE diesels.

If this photo link doesn't work, go to Yahoo Groups and join the Slimrails discussion group (free). Then you can see the photos.

The engine was built for the Death Valley Railroad owned by US Borax and connecting with its Tonopah & Tidewater. A sister engine is now on display at Furnace Creek Ranch on the floor of Death Valley. The railroad never got into the valley itself.

A third steam engine from US Potash (#3) is part of the collection of the Southern California Chapter R&LHS. This is an outside-frame, deckless engine that once ran at Morinci Arizona.
