Dagny Taggart is my kind of woman - strong willed, conservative, successful, and she runs the major Class I railroad known as Taggart Transcontinental. She even has her own private car - now that's a real babe!

Can't wait to see the movie to see if it triggers a few synapses. I read the book back in the 1970's but I can't remember a thing about it other than it took a long time to read as it was very very very long. I believe at least 300 pages.

Charlie, it's worse than you remember--more like 1,200 pages, which is part of why I never got around to reading it. What I saw of the writing style didn't quite appeal to me either, although there are many here who would disagree with me on this.

Though one of my favorite books, Rand can be a laborious read. Wonder if Reader's Digest ever did it? I know there are Cliff's notes for a good summary.

I'm not an endurance reader and usually do better by listening than reading so I got the audio book through iTunes last year. It is indeed a great book; one most railroaders and railfans would enjoy. To help put things into perspective regarding the length, the audio book was about 65 hours long.

I'm really looking forward to the movie and I LOVE that it comes out on April 15. :)

Yes, that was THE longest audio book I have ever listened to. It took two round trips from Atlanta to Scranton and then some to get all of it done. Although I had read a great deal of it in high school, I must admit to skimming (maybe even skipping) some parts to make it through.

I concur completely with the thoughts about the release date.

Uh, listening to the unabridged version of any audio book counts as having read it. It is the only way some of us are able to get enough hours to read, or more correctly, have read to us, a great number of things. Since my subscription to Audible started a couple of years ago, I have increased the number of titles I have time to absorb many times over. Consequences of doing a lot of driving, I suppose.
