Amtrak's latest Heritage unit honors the Baldwin Sharknose era. On it's inaugural run, the one of a kind unit is found on April 1, 2011 with the Silver Star.

And in my mind at least, that trailing unit has just gotta be a "B" unit!!!

Well done.
April Fools Day is yesterdays news at this time in Australia

What's striking to me about this is that I have always thought the bodies of the Genesis units behind the cab were reminiscent of Baldwin Sharks!

Seems GE and EMD might want to reconsider nose design!

Amazingly, these aren't April Fools' jokes; they are Amtrak "Heritage" units, painted to commemorate the company's 40th anniversary:

I wonder what else Amtrak may come up with of interest in "heritage" work?

That's great. Riding behind the pointless arrow, you can drink a can of Mountain Dew with a hillbilly on it (made with real sugar), and arrive at your destination and see Creedence, the Doobie Brothers or Rush in concert.

Strangely enough, that sounds like an enjoyable trip............:)

The local Food Lion here has Pepsi "Flashback," made with "real sugar."

And since you mention the Mountain Dew hillbilly:

Apparently there was a color version:

From the 1970s:

Have fun.

But you can still see Rush in concert. They're not as young as they once were...but neither are we. However, gone are the days of cruising in Mom's 1978 Malibu Classic with the Pioneer cassette deck, Audiovox seven-channel equalizer/amplifer, and Jensen three-way speakers with Moving Pictures cranked up to nine. Life didn't get much better than that...especially when enroute to photograph Southern #630 (in her first life cycle at TVRM!)

I "gotcha" Steve.....I remember listening to CCR & the "Doobie Brothers" on the AM radio in my 1970 Nova, on my way to chase (or ocassionally work on) 630 on the old "Washington Division" mainline (gee, my "geezerdom" is really showing)

Correction: Pepsi and Mountain Dew are in a "Throwback" line:

At this rate, is there any chance we may see steam come back in our lifetimes?

Sure. Just run a campaign that convinces paranoid parents that diesel locomotives are as detrimental to their/their precious children's health as high-fructose corn syrup............. and then give the consumers the option........

Naah. Not really.

Here in Seattle you can buy it in glass bottles with real sugar. I don't think it's a throwback line though. The Coke is bottled in Mexico, as evidenced by the spanish on the bottle. Yes, that's right, consumers around here are paying a big premium for a smaller sized bottle that is made with Mexican water!

Given that trend, selling them on steam should be easy!

Speaking of concerts, anyone going to see the "Beach Gramps" this summer? :)

That is fantastic.

I've come to consider most of the rypn April Fools stuff as rather uninspired, unfunny or as in some years past, just mean-spirited.

But this, this is good.

Wow....I'm glad I'm not that old! :-)

I am, however, old enough to (barely) remember S&A 750 and SR 722 doubleheading on the TAG in 1971. That was a one-time deal. (Although SR 4501 did run the TAG in '73...my Dad helped with firing duties.)

BTW: Jim - Great job on the 'shopping.

And you can still see the Doobies Brothers, too, and they put on a great show. Like a fine wine, the Doobs have gotten better with age. I try to see them every year when they come to the upper Midwest.
