Saturday, February 26th

On Saturday, George Peck led a crew consisting of PJ Hintz. They worked on equipment in the yard and inspected the culvert at MP 26.19.

In Kingston, Earl Pardini led a crew consisting of Peter Fluchere, John Patane, Walt Otto, Dick Wilhelm and Ed Mead. They notched 17 more timbers for C9, with 54 complete so far.


Sunday, February 27th

On Sunday, Earl Pardini led a crew in Kingston consisting of Mark Glaser and Bob Blake, They notched 12 more bridge timbers for Bridge C9, with 66 complete so far.

George Peck will lead a crew reopening the line to the washout (MP 24.53), and completing repairs there. They will start at the Phoenicia yard at 9am, weather permitting.

Earl Pardini plans to open Cornell Street at 9am. Plans are to notch more bridge timbers.

"On Saturday at Cornell St. Yard 20 additional bridge timbers were finish cut, and some additional work on the car mover transmission was done. Participating were: Earl,Bob Blake,d**k Wilhelm,Joe Marsh,Walt Otto, Peter Fluchere, Connie Johnson,Joe Kapklowski,and Todd Syska. Visitors later in the afternoon included George Peck and George Bain."

The new volunteer orientation meeting will begin at 10am at the Phoenicia Station. The regular annual volunteer meeting will begin at 1:30pm at the station.

Saturday, March 12th.

The CMRR had its annual volunteer meeting on Saturday. Over 46 volunteers attended.

During the meeting, Dave Mason, Derek Stapleton and George Peck did extensive work getting our work equipment started and ready for operation.


Sunday, March 13th

From Mark Glaser:

"On Sunday, at Cornell St., the C-9 bridge timber crew notched an additional 17 ties. This brings the total number of finished deck pieces to 103. Today's participants included Earl, Bob Blake, Walt Otto, John Watson, Tony Gambino, and myself."

From Joe Marsh:

"We had an extra work day on the car mover this past Sunday 3/13/11. We started by assembling the reversing transmission in the box car. After the assembly we installed the reversing transmission in the car mover. We then proceeded to install the four speed transmission. Now that we have both transmissions bolted in the next phase will be to connect up the drive chain, brakes and shifting linkage. We will take this on the next available work day. The crew today: Dick Ray, Dick Wilhelm, Marie Marsh, Joe Marsh."

George Peck worked in Phoenicia getting the track machines ready for service.

Friday, March 18th

Joe Marsh will lead a crew at the Kingston yard starting at 9:30am. They will be finishing the car mover repairs.


Saturday, March 19th

All hands to Phoenicia!

George Peck will lead a crew reopening the line to the new culvert at MP 26.19 and completing repairs there. They will start at the Phoenicia yard at 8:30am. He will also direct a second crew to finish up work on the west-end runaround in Phoenicia.

The 702 crew will be starting at 10am.

The CMRR's annual stockholder meeting will be held at 7pm at the Phoenicia station. All stockholders are encouraged to attend.

Friday, March 18th

In Kingston, Joe Marsh led a crew working on the car mover. His crew included Dick Ray, Dick Wilhelm, Connie Johnson, George Peck and Tom Healy.


Saturday, March 19th

In Kingston, Joe Marsh led a crew consisting of Marie Marsh and Dick Wilhelm. He finished up work on the car mover.

In Phoenicia, our Brush crew cut brush from the Phoenicia section house to farmer's crossing. The crew was led by George Liucci and included Al Johnson, Thom Johnson, Chris Burtt, Jim Bruck, Russell Hallock and Connie Johnson.

Also in Phoenicia, George Peck led a crew consisting of Dave Mason, Jason DiTolla, Brian Mason, Mark Glaser, Bob Blake, Mike LaLonde, Derek Stapleton, Dave Heick, Ray Farrell, Dan Howard, Joe Klapkowski, and Earl and Mimi Pardini. The inserted the new culvert at MP 26.19 and partially backfilled it.

Sunday, March 20th

George Peck led a crew consisting of Dave Heick, Derek Stapleton and Joe Logiudice and continued work on the culvert repair at MP 26.19. Subgrade work is now complete.

Earl Pardini continued work notching timbers at Cornell Street. Per Mark Glaser:

"Cornell St. Yard saw additional C-9 bridge timber activity on Sunday with 23 pieces finish cut. This brings our total to 126 notched and ready to install. Repairs to the yard crane's steering gear were completed as well as a general cleanup of the yard parking area and the ROW out to the east gate of the material yard. Today's crew included Earl, Bob Blake, Ernie Klopping, Walt Otto, John Watson, Will Wilsey, Ed Mead, George Cook, and myself. Best, Mark"

Tuesday, March 22nd.

Joe Marsh's crew included Dick Ray, Dick Wilhelm and Connie Johnson. Writes Joe:

"We started by checking all the fluid levels on the spike remover and doing a general inspection of the machine which led to several aintenance issues like replacement of frayed hoses and cleaning the sediment bowl. Then we started the machine and let it come to temperature verifying correct operation.

Next we headed to Phoenicia where we removed the main shaft from the Gradall transmission. After lunch we returned to Kingston and went to work on the spiker. After a general inspection we proceeded to rig a temporary gas tank and managed to get the engine started and running good enough to verify the hydraulic system problems."

Saturday, March 26th.

George Peck led a crew consisting of Derek Stapleton, Art Vogel, John Watson, Dan Howard, Dave Mason, Dave Heick, Jim Bruck, Connie Johnson and Mark Glaser. They completed work on the culvert replacement at MP 26.19:

They also cut leaning trees at MP 25.8.

Bill Kaba worked on the 702.


Sunday, March 27th

George Peck led a crew removing spikes, plates and ties east of MP 25.8. They removed 38 of 202 ties marked for removal. The crew included George Bain, John Patane, and Joe Klapkowski.

In Kingston, Mark Glaser writes:

"The Cornell St. yard crew finish cut 12 more timbers for the C-9 redecking project. This brings our total number of available pieces to 138. A mechanical crew successfully installed a new hydraulic steering control valve in the yard's mobile crane. Participating today were: Earl Pardini, Bob Blake, Anthony Gambino, Walt Otto, Ernie Klopping, and myself."

Is anyone having trouble viewing Ernie's photos? All the info and headings are there but a blank photo in each spot.

I would like to continue to keep up with this project. Reminds me of one I undertook in 1990 in Clearfield, KY.

Friday, April 1st

Tom Healy will lead a crew starting at Phoenicia at 10am. They plan to scarify ties removed last weekend, and insert replacements east of MP 25.8. They will also remove OTM. Workplan may change if there is bad weather, but Tom will be there rain or shine.


Saturday, April 2nd

All hands to Phoenicia!

George Peck will lead a crew continuing tie replacements east of MP 25.8. They will start at the Phoenicia yard at 8:30am.

George Liucci will lead a brush crew starting at 10am at the Phoenicia Section House.

The 702 crew will be starting at 10am.

The CMRR will hold its semi-annual rules class starting at 10am at Phoenicia station.


Sunday, April 3rd

George Peck plans to continue critical trackwork and needs as many hands as possible. He will start at Phoenicia at 9am.

Wednesday, March 30th

Joe Marsh and his crew continued work on the spike driver in Kingston. His crew included Dick Ray, Marie Marsh, Connie Johnson, Dick Wilhelm and George Peck.


Friday, April 1st

Tom Healy, Dick Wilhelm and George Peck led a crew that scarified and inserted 38 ties east of MP 25.8.


Saturday, April 2nd

George Peck led a crew that removed 107 more ties east of MP 25.8 and reinserted 70. The crew consisted of Derek Stapleton, Tom Healy, Dave Heick, and Dick Wilhelm.

Al Johnson and George Liucci worked on coach 701.

Rules class in Phoenicia had 27 attendees. All but 2 passed the test.


Sunday, April 3rd

On Sunday, George Peck led a crew consisting of Dave Heick and Dick Wilhelm, and inserted 37 more ties east of MP 25.8.

In Kingston, Earl Pardini, Bob Blake, Walt Otto and Mark Glaser notched timbers for the C9 bridge. The notched 12 more for a cumulative total of 150 so far, over half way. Al Schoessow and Mark Glaser also took the 401 to Washington Avenue to clear out grade crossings. Ernie Klopping and Al Schoessow worked on the spiker.

Joe Marsh, Marie Marsh, and Connie Johnson removed spikes from the C9 bridge.

Thursday, April 7th

Joe Marsh will be leading a crew Thursday. From Joe: "We will meet at Cornell St at 9:30 and car pool or sub divide ( depends how many folks come ). The first task will be to assemble the Gradall transmission in Phoenicia. I thinking that we should be done with this job by noon. Then we will return to Kingston and work on the remaining issues on the spiker."


Friday, April 8th

Tom Healy will lead a crew starting at Phoenicia at 10am. They plan to continue removing and replacing ties east of MP 25.8.

The 702 crew will be starting at 10am.


Saturday, April 9th

All hands to Phoenicia!

Thursday, April 7th

On Thursday, Joe Marsh led a crew consisting of Dick Ray, Dick Wilhelm and Connie Johnson. They assembled the Gradall transmission and tested gear 1 and reverse. In the afternoon they continued work on the spiker at Cornell Street.

Friday, April 8th

On Friday, Joe Marsh went to Phoenicia to check the rest of the gears on the gradall, recovered it and got it ready for the Phoenicia team to put it back in the gradall. Joe also worked with Al Schoessow and Connie Johnson and cleaned out all the tamping guns so it would be ready to tamp.

Also on Friday, Al Johnson continued paint preparation work on coach 701.

Tom Healy led a crew consisting of Al Howes, Al Schoessow, Connie Johnson and George Peck, and continued scarifying and inserting ties east of MP 25.8. They also tamped about 40 ties with the tamper.


Saturday, April 9th

On Saturday, George Peck led a large crew in Phoenicia and continued removing and inserting ties east of MP 25.8. They continued tamping and plating more ties in preparation for spiking. The crew included Tom Healy, Russell Hallock, Dan Howard, Dave Heick, Al Schoessow, Dick Wilhlem, Bob Blake and Mark Glaser. Derek Stapleton and Dave Mason continued work reinstalling the transmission into the gradall.


Sunday, April 10th

At Cornell Street, Earl Pardini led a crew consisting of John Patane, Walt Otto and Jim Bruck that cut 12 more bridge timbers, bringing the total to 162. Ernie Klopping and Earl also worked on the backhoe and crane.

In Mt. Tremper a crew consisting of Al Schoessow, Joe and Marie Marsh and Mark Glaser spiked 95 ties (north side only) plated approximately 25 and inserted two.
