PINACATE Station Signs at Orange Empire Ry Museum (see pictures).

Recently I was asked if I could make station signs for the roof of the museum's station (bookstore). The building is not historic, build by volunteers a few decades ago. Pinacate was a mining region southwest of Perris, CA and the Mexican name of a beetle.

The sign material is e-panel, a composite of two pre-painted sheets of .008" aluminum with a solid polyethylene core, printed, and given protective finishing coat. I made the frame and bracing out of TREX, recycled plastic (PVC) composite boards usually used as decking. Coated deck screws and construction cement hold it all together. This all means zero maintenance (I hope).

The cost to the was museum about $350 for the signs and other materials. E-panel is a 3M product and I assume 3M should be able to help you find a sign maker using it in your area.

Before there was a town of Perris the railroad had a station stop named Pinacate. This was one of the original stops on the California Southern RR and served the gold mining district and the south end of the plateau now called the Perris Valley. The Museum is located at (or near) this station stop.

Perris came into being during the Southern California land boom of the late 1880s.

On a semi related note, how is FRA work on VC #2 going? I'm hoping to make a visit and see her in steam this September!

Jeff Lamb and his crew are making good head way on VC #2
There were 5 super heaters that needed rebuilding, they were sent out last week.
Two rebuilt tender trucks are ready for insalation, hopefully the 1st Sat of May.
all control valves are being serviced. fresh paint is being added where needed.

Jeff is looking to have the engine back in service by the end of the summer.

Thanks for the information. I hope to make it for the September steam up. OERM is one of these "Field of Dreams" kind of places you can visit multiple times and see something new each go round.

If you want to make sure the VC 2 is running, call the museum first no matter what the web site says -- especially this September. BTW, Dave Wolven is on the steam team now.
