The preview for the final episode (CBS this Sunday) of The Amazing Race has a Rio trolley car scene.

Here's a short YouTube clip showing some West Virginia University students carousing on board one of these open cars.

I saw the Rio car in the background of highlights for next week. I did not know that Rio still had open cars. Arethese from teh same vintage as the cars imported to the US in the 1960s?

This one is pretty well known. You can also find it in episodes of CSI Miami.

Back in the "boom years"* of the Chattanooga Choo Choo complex, they had an open-sided Rio trolley to go along with the two re-gauged New Orleans streetcars. They didn't use the open-sided car much because kids kept jumping on and off. I think it eventually went back to Rio.

BTW: CCC only has one of the NO streetcars now as they resold one back to the South.

*The Chattanooga Choo Choo (CCC) was at one time the #1 tourist attraction in Tennessee. But that was WAY before Dollywood!

As I recall, the Rio open car that was in Chattanooga is now in Memphis, heavily rebuilt. None of the Rio open cars imported in the 1960's were ever returned to Rio.
