Post subject: Update on SAM Shortline Excursion Train (Georgia)
PostPosted: Tue Jul 23, 2002 5:01 pm

I found out today that the grand opening of the SAM Shortline excursion train has been rescheduled for Saturday October 26, 2002. My previous post indicated the originally scheduled date of October 5, but that apparently has changed within the last 24 hours.

Interesting question. From Cordele to Archery. Cordele is on the interstate highway. Americus and Plains are on the route and you may have heard of these towns. Leslie is also on the line and offers the museum of the rural telephone service.

Habitat for Humanity is building a Global Village in Americus which will be the biggest draw on the line. Plains of course has a lot of peanut farming interpretation and history relating to the Carter presidency while Archery, just down the line from plains, is the Carter boyhood home.

Plains has just opened a new inn which has suites decorated in the styles of the different decades of President Carter's life (I kind of like the idea of the '70's.)

There is also a Veterans' Park with golf and some camping near Cordele.
