Goodevening, all.

I am currently searching for a pair of allied cushion trucks for use under a converted troop sleeper. Thank you for you interest.

They're pretty rare. I think the only chance you have of finding a set of those is if you can find an ex-troop sleeper that is going to scrap. Even then, many of the troop sleepers had their trucks changed at some point. We have two ex-troop sleepers and were very lucky that both of them had their original Allied Full Cushion Trucks when we got them.
Good luck.

You might want to contact the Alaska RR; they inherited a lot of Gov't surplus equipment over the years, and may still have some in work service.

In addition, when I was up in Alaska ten or twelve years ago, the lodge at Denali National Park had some railroad cars incorporated into it. At the time I thought it rather funny; in the lobby was an architect's rendering of the proposed lodge, which looked like a train station with a bunch of passenger cars at the platform (this may have been at the former Alaska RR station site). The reality was somewhat different; a bunch of stacked modular rooms with a couple of ex-Alaska RR troop kitchen cars outside, at least one used as a bar. I looked at them from the outside, and the two I looked at were still on Allied full cushion trucks.

I just looked at the Denali web site http://www.nps.gov/dena/index.htm and they no longer claim to have a lodge. It would have been where the Denali Visitor's Center (built in 2005, after I was there) is now, at mile 1.5 on the park road. This may mean the the older lodge was razed and the cars scrapped, or it may still exist converted to other uses. Either way, there were a couple pair of trucks there, and scrap often doesn't leave Alaska due to the cost of shipping it out.

Good luck with your quest.

Interestingly, a former C&O MOW/Troop sleeper near Cincinnati is on sale at Railswap at scrap steel prices. As such, it will probably be scrapped. Perhaps you can approach the seller and purchase just the trucks and any other parts you might need.

Contact Time Hyde at the Greater Cincinnati Railway Museum. They have one that was looking to be scrapped. I think it did have the trucks on it.
