I have not had the time yet to look at your web site, but is not the Georgia Northern coach still on the property in Eureka Springs? Even with the missing glass (sold to a private party a couple of years ago) the car is right there and would be a better option for your purpose than trying to move and restore a car from Washington, GA. The owner of the Eureka Springs railroad was at one time willing to sell the car quite reasonably...

Back to the topic at hand...
Judging from the photos Dale posted, the car appears to have been built as a "Jim Crow" combine. The paneling looks original in the current configuration, but that's just my 2 cents worth.

Okay, if it is a "Jim Crow" design, I would get local African-American history groups aware of it immediately. This is an important part of the civil rights story, and a part of the heritage of a large portion of southern society. Segregation existed, it was a fact, painful but true. Nobody wishes to wallow in the ugly side of America's past, but in the context of the post Civil War story, this car has an important story to tell.

I concur with the Jim Crow logic. There did seem to be passenger areas on each end with baggage in the middle.

Car dimensions:
Height - 10' 2" Roof to bottom of the Truss rods.
Width - 10' 3"
Length - 55' 11"

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to weight?

I would guess the weight is about 75,000 lbs m/l. I not sure is that with trucks but maybe.

I know this because I know a old wooden coach that weight about 75,000 pounds.

Brian - Let me try to say this nicely, before the rest of the board reads you the riot act. There are a lot of these threads that simmer like a pot of stew. No post for a day or two does not mean the object is scrapped or otherwise disposed of. Often these projects take much time to prepare, fund and move. Much takes place behind the scenes and since there is no money to be made by preservationists, it must fit in to free time when people aren't out working to support themselves and their families. It's OK to lurk and follow along vicariously through the efforts of others, but if you ask the status of every chicken coop on a by-weekly basis, you run the risk of loosing respect among the more experienced and well respected posters.

excellent news it looks to be in reasonable shape... on the Car 57 scale of reasonableness...... Our car body weighed in around 14tons or 28,000lbs it is 51ft long and has no ironwork underneath whatsoever.

Hoping to hear something positive, although we are in that "couple of months from now" timeframe when the car was to be burned...

There is a group from Alabama that is working out the details now. Once something happens I will let everyone know.
