Some photos, taken by Louis Champlin within the last four years, of the NdeM 4-8-4s, on display and in the scrapyard at Huehuetoca.

Bob...thanks for posting...enjoyed seeing these.
Was lucky enough to go on a rail group trip in 1963 and see a bit of steam. I think we saw the last one of these to be shopped(#3046) at Auquascaliente, when we were there. We were supposed to get a steam engine for our train the next day but nothing available.

Its amazing how many of this class has survived.

Speaking of Huehuetoca, I remember shooting b&w shots from the vestibule as we passed a scrap yard north of Mexico City en route back to Texas. Must have been this place which of course was full of engines in 1963.

Does anyone have a copy or remember hearing the recordings of "Valle De Vapour" or something like that. I think it was done by Brad Miller. It features a screamer sequence of a train departing Huehuetoca at night...a 2-8-2 I think! I think the recordings were made around 1964-1966 right near the end. Good stuff if you get a chance to hear it. The cover has artwork of a 4-8-4.

New Hope and Ivyland Ry is leasing Mexican 4-8-4 #3028 from a group in Schenectady, NY and has been working on it when monies are available. They also bought 7 LIRR coaches this year and fully intend to run the engine when it is done on off line fan trips over SEPTA lines in the Philly region. It just might happen!

One question though, just where would it go on SEPTA? SEPTA is not a very big system.

I think that Septa has more than enough milage to run a good trip.

Heck, even if she was just used on SEPTA from Philly to Ivyland and then up the NH&I to New Hopr that would be great!

New Hope needs some alternative transportation options, as it is a happenin' alternative place (and has been for quite some time). It's the home of Ween! It must be good!

That NdeM chooch has (had) some real "alternative" style repairs to her firebox, main rods, etc. Having checked her out when she was in Bldg. 29 at Colonie, I have to say she has classic good-looking ALCO lines, and lots of kludge-y south-of-the-border stuff. Hope the NH&I boys get her Part 230-compliant-- I look forward to seeing her run!

OK, what's "Ween"?
