Looking at these trucks, can anyone identify the type of truck and perhaps the weight for the trucks. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

I know that they are GSC, OSSH, Disc brakes, but is there a name or designation to them?

I don't have my truck ID reference material handy, but I think those are known as the 41-CDO if I'm not mistaken. But no one really uses those designations today. As noted, they look like a 9' wheelbase OSH disk brake C frame truck, probably from an ATSF car. The UP used very similar trucks, but they used the rubber cushioned pedestal liners and I do not see evidence of those in these 2 pictures.

They should weigh in at around 19,000 lbs each (including wheelsets), or close to 20,000 lbs with a Spicer drive unit. Also, these are not "Budd trucks", as Budd did not produce trucks of this style. These trucks were manufactured by GSI and could be found under Budd, PS, ACF and SLC cars.

Luther you've nailed it pretty well. At a glance I'd say ATSF 9'0" wheelbase with 15" pedestal openings and most likely CFM disc brakes and central bearing center plates. I believe that would be a 41-CDO-11. I would speculate that 40,000 lbs. would be pretty close/safe for a lifting weight for the pair -- 20K each.

These are something of "status symbol" trucks for the lightweight car elite, much the same as the 6 wheel OSH is for the heavyweight elite. And I suppose other than the Canton I beams and the CFM disc they really are pretty nice.

Thanks for the help guys!. I'll go with 19-20K pounds. Hopefully this works out.

I recall reading that the 41-CDO-11 style of designation was developed by the Pullman Company in the post-WWII era to indicate the style, wheelbase, journal size to help its mechanical staff know what was under the cars that it operated for the railroads.

Modelers have picked up on this system because it was translatable to non-Pullman cars.

There's a modeler's clinic on Pullman truck identification posted to the Yahoo Groups' PassengerCarList group -- pretty useful information (group subscription required for access):

While the List is modeller-oriented, there is a lot of interesting prototype-related discussion. (And more than a few RyPN posters are regulars there -- you know who you are ! ;^)
