I note Philip Anschutz is now considered America's top corporate crook. Has he been involved with any preservation/passenger projects other than the ski train?

No other trasnportation enterprises beyond ski train are listed in the current holdings of The Anschutz Investment Company according to their Web site. And, FWIW, I'd still vote for Ken Lay or Jeffrey Skilling or Bernie Ebbers (in that order) rather than Anschutz in the biggest crook category.

Phil still owns several passenger cars among which is a dome coach from the CZ. These cars have not been restored as of yet.

Mr. Phillip F. Anschutz, Chairman of Anschutz Comapny, is one one of the members of the Board of Directors of Union Pacific.

I understand that this is because of the size of his holdings in the D&RGW/SP which companies were acquired by the UP.

Where is the information coming from that Anschutz is portrayed as a "corporate crook"??

A crook would not involve himself with the likes of the Ski Train, or any other passenger/excursion/preservation project.

From TV, I understand the problem was discovered through the Qwest communications firm, which apparently cooked its books to defraud stockholders to a much higher figure than Enron, etc.. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Follow the link below to two stories about Phillip Anschutz in today's Denver Post. After reading the first, click on the link that says: "Anschutz Image In Greedy Glare".

You will find more information about his business dealings than than you probably want to know.

I have always been pretty leary of him (like anyone with that much money and power) but he is not yet a crook in my book.

I've looked through the various articles on Anschutz, here and elsewhere, and I see nothing that qualifies him as being "America's biggest crook". We've repeatedly elected and re-elected bigger crooks than this. I'm not about to defend the alleged shady accounting practices that Quest (in common with a LOT of other companies and our own state and Federal governments) used, or Anschutz's corporate tactics. But I am of the suspicion that Yarger would attack anyone making huge gobs of money. Remember, Bob, he can't take it with him.

And whatever happened to Timothy "Rail Baron" Mellon? The mighty can fall, remember.

I believe Mr. Anschutz owns D&RGW narrow gauge caboose 04343. This car remained in the Alamosa roundhouse for years after all the other NG equipment had vanished. It was finally removed in the spring of 1990.

According to the recent issue (09/02) of Fortune, Anschtz sold $1.57 Billion worth of Qwest stock since 1999. Just because he cashed in the most options doesn't make him the biggest crook, just the guy at the top of the list. As Eric has observed, there are a couple who goty less money who were way more crooked.
