1948 Budd Co. Former NYC 48 class observation lounge car. Not the 48, there are two other cars claiming to be that one! KCS did not keep good track of which became which when they were sent to Pullman in the 60's to have the buffets turned into counter service bars.

Does the 25 ton GE come with it?

Car is ex KCS 42, ex NYC 49, bought by KCS in 1960, retired and sold to Brewton Lumber, Winnfield, LA about 1971, Brewton bought out by Louisiana Pacific, car was transferred to LP's Urania, LA plant, which then became a Georgia Pacific facility, it closed down, car was transferred to GP's Gloster, MS mill, which is where it still is, as far as I know.

Have no idea how an ad can get everything wrong. Ad says GE locomotive not included. Loco probably came from Urania plant, they had a little bit of trackage at Urania inside plant.

I think this car probably followed a lumber company official from place to place. Perhaps he is gone. The car served as a lunch room, meeting room, etc; and at Urania, they built a deck around it and I think rented it out for functions. Its been reasonably well cared for over the past 40 years.

So who was awarded the car?

It's not likely this car will be going anywhere for a while. As is usual with owners of cars on isolated track, they have a very unrealistic idea of what it is worth.

This car and the little critter loco arrived today in Metairie, LA(New Orleans) by truck, being delivered to Pete Messina's car shop(located in the old KCS diesel shop, within their yard here).

Don't know who bought it, or what is planned for it, but if anyone finds out, let us know.
