Moving vintage cars by flat/depressed center rail car

Does anyone on the List have experience with moving a vintage passenger or freight car (not suitable for interchange) via a flat or depressed center rail car?

I would like to get some insights into the issues related to this type of move.

Unfortunately, yes. More than once.

You may want to use the search feature here as the topic has been discussed before.

You will need to become familiar with the AAR Open Top Loading Rules, get to know the clearance bureau at your local railroad, and I recommend locating an experienced rigger. I found working with companies that pick up derailments gets you someone with knowledge of railroad equipment, procedures, and personnel.

In addition, all these items and a whole lot more were moved from the nearest live rail to the museum by road.

I'll do what I can to answer any questions.

It was so much easier when we were still allowed to move old cars with K brakes and cast iron wheels on their own wheels as a special move, and before a weak bridge resulted in our connection being lost.

Yes, Charleston & Western Carolina/Georgia Northern/Alton & Southern 38 via flatcar (ITTX 912844) from the Museum of Transportation/St. Louis, MO to the Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah, GA. Had to transfer to a truck to get it into the museum, which does not have a live rail connection. I used Ben Butterworth, then of ITAC, to tie down the car and coordinate with R.J. Corman Derailment Services to do the lift at MOT.
