We (the Lake Shore Railway association) In Wellington Ohio have the remnants of NKP 54. 1907 ACF built wood body steel frame passenger car. Car is complete except for most of the wood. If you have a body but no underframe and trucks we have a kit for you. Trucks, couplers frame air brakes, basically a flat car with some uprights and the roof remaining.
We are tight for money and may be forced to scrap if no one is interested.

Jack, I'm not interested, but for the folks who are, you may want to spell out who and where "We" is... This is the worldwide web after all.

Jack, I truly hope someone comes to the rescue to save what is left of this poor old car! I also hope you guy's saved all the stained glass windows /frames when it was stripped of most of it's exterior rotted wood. They had been painted over when it was in work train service as a kitchen car in it's later day's on the NKP.Last time when i was in the car back around 1999-2000 Most all of the stained glass windows were still intact along with the white glass ceiling light fixtures, even then it was enough to make anyone cry seeing it in the shape it was in.

If no one wanted the car when it was free to a good home several years ago it probably doesn't have much of a chance now? If you still have the windows maybe you could sell individual frames with the stained glass on Ebay if buyers know the cars history and number? Others from old coaches i've seen listed in the past seem to do quite well,as i've bought a few clerestory ones myself for decoration.

Here's an attached scan of the coach #54 for those to see what it looked like in better day's on the NKP as car X53079 when it was a kitchen car in work train service at Bellevue,Ohio in 1967.This was taken by Willis McCaleb and i recently bought the original negative on Ebay.

This car is a prime example of what can go wrong with a RR car that should have been preserved.I'm in no way blaming anyone as money to restore it and a proper place of cover was not available and the elements eventually took it's toll.

Here's some additional information on NKP #54 and sister coaches from John A. Rehors Nickel Plate Story book on page 463 and 464. AC&F turned out 16 vestibuled coaches for the NKP numbered 43 - 58.Cars 43-48 were built in 1907 and cars 49-58 were built in 1910. There is also a picture of #58 when new on page 464.They were rebuilt with steel underframes 1923-25, total weight 46.2/50.9 tons, the length of the cars was 68' 6", all were converted to camp cars between 1939-1942.
