I was curious if there were any railroad museums, organizations or anyone else that is engaged in wooden railcar preservation or restoration that has used products by ABATRON? They make LIQUIDWOOD which is a epoxy liquid that can make rotten wood hard again. They also make WOODEPOX which is a 2 part adhesive wood puty which can be be used to replace or fill missing wood. Does anyone have any success / failure stories about the use of this product? The WOODEPOX reminds me as a BONDO for wood.

I do know that the material has been used in building restoration projects, including some large and reputable restorations. It's often used for situations where the wood has rotted due to ground moisture, and the only other option would be to replace the entire piece of wood. In situations where the wood is ornately carved, and/or tied into the structure in a manner that makes replacement difficult, this is a good option.

Unfortunately, while I've seen / read about it being used, I don't have any solid first hand experience with it, and I would wonder about the interface between the epoxy and the wood. Does it promote rot? Also, how does it react to UV exposure? Will it get brittle and crack 10 years down the road?

I have a friend that used a different brand of epoxy on his sail boat over 15 years ago. He used it to stabilize several major structural beams. He lives on it and routinely sails it and it hasn't sunk yet. The epoxy needs UV protection.
