PRR B6s #60 Current Pictures.

Since it is unclear whether PRR 60 was indeed the engine seen years ago at Etna PA, I will start a new thread which may aid in future searches.

Here are some pictures of PRR 60 currently stored in Hochessin, DE on the Wilmington and Western. These pictures were taken Feb 15, 2012. Pictures are low resolution.

The tender came off an H6 2-8-0. As you can see the metal is just a little thin.

This is inside the firebox.

About the only thing left in the cab is the reverser.

There are plenty more pictures, but regrettably the internet electrons all seem to be flowing the wrong way tonight and it is seems to take forever to upload pictures. I'll try to get some more Thursday. I also stuck the camera in the smokebox which is about the same shape as the firebox. Amazingly the bell is still mounted as is the turbo and headlight. More pics coming later.....

Thanks for posting the photos Tom. I was checking her out last week when I went to the doctor for a checkup. The caboose with her needs some tlc too.

Looking at her as she is reminds me that not all B-6 locomotives had Belpaire fireboxes; that included those built for the Washington Terminal Company (Washington, DC Union Station operating company).

I think WT also had some of those big C-1 0-8-0s as well, and they didn't have the normal Belpaire firebox either.

Rather than spread more bad info, please note that this loco was stored from 1952 until rescued at ACMETONIA, PA (between Harmarville and Springdale). It never had anything to do with Etna, PA, some 10 miles away.

Was this locomotive visible from the PA Turnpike and when was the tender changed out? Thanks

PRR 60 when stored all those years MIGHT have been visible from the PA Turnpike Allegheny River Bridge, but only in winter. It was surrounded by trees and brush that would preclude any detection from that bridge while the leaves were present. The exact location was alongside the PRR Conemaugh Div. mainline, but about 25' lower, just to the west of the large Chemline Corp. building and just to the east of the Bessemer & Lake Erie's Allegheny River Bridge. Chemline was located between the PRR and the river, just west of Lock & Dam #3.

The municipality in which it was located is Acmetonia. PRR called the location "Acme," at milepost 63.1 of the Conemaugh Div.

Evidently not the same one, the one I am recalling was at a quarry operation and the siding was just about 25' below the edge of the turnpike guardrail headed westbound in the same general vicinity.

Here is the caboose just up the same siding. It really needs paint, and the rust is starting to take its toll. I believe it is of UP heritage. The interior is in reasonable condition. (it hasn't been trashed or vandalized). Interesting trucks.

Indeed it is a UP Caboose. Formerly on the Anthracite Rwy. It and the 60 were "restored" by 4 States Railway (West Chester RR) while their Reading MU's were stored at this same location.

Washington Terminal had 3 C1 0-8-0 engines. They DID have Belpaire fireboxes. Their chief difference from the PRR C1s was the slope back tenders, which the Pennsy didn't use on theirs. These were bigger than any other PRR s.b. tender. This can be seen in "Pennsy Power".

I don't know why everybody looks at this locomotive an shrugs. C'mon, pump this baby up to 14.7 psi!

On a more serious side, the shop display would be ideal, assuming a reputable museum has room indoors. Furthermore, that classic PRR smokebox face is present and some torch work could fix up the exterior quite well. Despite appearances, all, it would seem, is not lost.
