The photos with the people standing next to the drivers... Wow. It really puts the size in perspective. Considering the size of the climax at Clark's Trading Post and the Boston and Maine 1455 at DRM, those two are pint sized in comparison to 2100! Just a bit rusty, but it looks like 2100 really just needs a 1472-day inspection... Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Thank you for posting. She doesn't look all that bad-yet. I hate the idea she's left out in the open on the wrong side of the continent. I wonder what it would take to
encourage somebody, so fund, some organization, to bring her back to Reading territory?

Before somebody says "scrap value or better" and "the price of shipping", I can not think of her as merely so much steel to be recycled. She's a Reading T1, first of her class, an operable survivor of 50 years. She's beyond replacement. She deserves a better fate.

By the way, I like that Great Northern Vanderbilt tank behind her!

Perhaps someone could drop by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and pick up a pallet of those new $100 bills. That oughta do it.

What a shame to see this beautiful piece of machinery in such a state of neglect. Apparently purchased by someone with a lot, but not really enough, money to tinker with such a historic item.

"Just" a 1472 day inspection? You do know what that entails, yes?

That homemade and unsuccessful oil burning installation would need to go and either replaced with proper equipment or better yet, restore it to coal. I can't remember anymore if previously posted accounts say the grates are still there under the concrete or what. But what a mess. And did the oil fiasco do any damage to firebox components?

Otherwise, yes, she looks decent. But sitting in the rain with lagging presumably getting wet isn't going to help her.

How the heck do you own something like this, and be so unconcerned about it to simply park it like that? No securing of cab, no removal of "collectible parts", no greasing of rods, no attempt to do ANYTHING to keep the locomotive from deterioration and petty vandalism. It would be a shame to see that headlight reflector smashed, but it probably already is. Look for the copper and brass stuff to go next.

Obviously owned by an uncaring/ignorant person; perhaps 2100 was simply a rich man's toy for a while, and he's lost interest in it now. Discarded like a broken plastic Lionel engine.

What a shame.

I recall - but cannot find the earlier thread - that someone who lurks here was an investor in the 2100 project and the engine is subject to a lien or other litigation as a result of the failed enterprise in Washington state.

Actually I thought the firebox interior photo was most instructive of why the retrofit oil burner set up did NOT work. Surprised the syphons did not suffer more damage for being in the flame impingement zone.

Great pix. Surprised it's in as good a shape as it's in. So far as rain, the engine is on the Columbia River Plateau at Pasco--this is just south of the Hanford nuclear reservation -- there is no rain (or darned little). The only better place to store it would be the Nevada desert.

Interesting to see the close-up photos. No jacket/lagging below the running boards, it seems, which it probably a good thing for keeping the shell dry. Anyone notice the "Thailand" stamped into the flexible bolt caps? Are these simply Home Despot pipe caps??? Wow.
