While doing some research, I came across this photo of the 1455 at Danbury.

Just to take a stroll down memory lane here, but when I was about 2 or 3, I remember seeing this steam train being moved on the other side of the Cape Cod Canal from the bike trail. We stayed at a campground near the Bourne Bridge, and this was while some major digging was going on along the trail. Man... It seems like it was so long ago! I'm more over surprised I can even remember that far back...

Danbury is slowly doing a cosmetic restoration on it. Last fall they rebuilt the window frames and welded in fresh metal in the cab. I do know the tender is in rough shape and needs work too.

So the 1455 came to the cape in November of 1993, and left the around 1998... I now know that i mustn't have seen it arriving... The time frames just don't add up... I wasn't born until two years after she arrived. What was the date she left? I must be missing something here... I guess this has turned into a bit of me trying to place a date on an old memory. DRM bought it in 1999... Where was she before the move took place?

She was stored on a siding in Middleboro for a couple years along with some other equipment from the Cape Cod Railroad. Here's a photo of her while she was there...

I'm surprised nobody has pumped money into restoring her for operation. What's teh story there?

Everyone is playing Power Ball in hopes of getting enough $$$ to restore it.

It was rode hard & put away wet.

Can I wager that the cost would include a replacement boiler? Isn't the current one original to 1455?

According to my slides , she left the Cape on March 18Th , 2000 , she came up to Framingham , Mass on the Cape train the night before .
This shot was taken Sunday morning in Framingham, Mass at Nevins yard, I got their early that morning and got my shots . Because the Conrail police was not letting any rail fans close to her .

I forget what freight she when westbound on to Worcester, Mass , that morning but she was turned over too the P&W at that point , March 19th, 2000 .

Thanks for the slide Pat. The dates add up now. I can't believe it was only 12 years ago that I saw my first real train (Thomas is good in all, but I had to grow up eventually). That means that my ride into South Station on the MBTA was a full two years after that! So between when I saw it to June 23, 2002 (the date of my first ride. I guess the fear of standing next to MBTA 1029 for the first time made it's mark, eh?)... I'll just call it at two years. And the fact 1455 came within what I consider my back yard, and on CSX for that matter... Times have changed so much!

The museum where she currently resides has a yard only but no mainline trackage rights, so she has no place to run for now even if she was operable. I know DRM has been trying for years to secure mainline rights and last I know they were still working on it.
