This is great news! Finally moving from the Midland Railway over to the Iowa Northern.

The owner of the Iowa Northern worked for the Rock Island at the beginning of his railroad career and his plan was (hopefully still IS!) to restore both units to operations.

The E-6 (number 630) was not running at all on the Midland Railway and E-8 652 was running on only one of its two engines at the end. The Midland started using other power on their trains (including a Katy RS-3 that MKT had rebuilt with a EMD prime mover), so the move of the E units will not be missed.

Iowa Northern has a "rail museum" in a couple of sections of the old CRI&P roundhouse in Manley, Iowa and the units will probably be going there for rebuilding.

It looks like there is a maroon passenger car behind the E unit - is it Rock Island as well? Any idea on the stainless steel car just off to the left end of the photo?

Judging from the roof line, that maroon passenger car behind the E-units may be the E-L diner being restored at that facility for the ELDHS group.

Yes that is EL Diner 741 and the other car is EL diner 770. Both should be on the move in the next couple of months.
