Delivery is said to be from March through June 1st. It is great stuff to see a railroad celebrating it's heritage.

Very nice to see the original NS Baldwin scheme and the CofG. Too bad they dropped TAG.

Great news that they're staying to the original designs. This is going to be a great show.

I can imagine 30 years from now, fans will be arguing over which one of these heritage loco's to preserve.

The schemes are excellent! I'm noticing that Andy Fletcher, the artist in question, was drawing these as early as 2010. I can only imagine the pride Mr. Fletcher must feel knowing that his designs are going to see life beyond sketches.
As for the notion on which ones will be preserved in 30 years, can I put a vote on the original NS scheme? As Dad always said, "orange is the best!".

I heard that EMD recently contacted the N&WHS for Virginian Ry. paint diagrams. The person at EMD couldn't understand why they didn't have any VGN info in their original company files. The N&WHS contact pointed out to him that the VGN bought only FM (and 1 GE 44 ton) diesels.

Mr. Fletcher, as anyone who follows him on Facebook can attest, has driven his renderings of "fantasy" and real locomotive paint jobs from an obsessive hobby to a business now. It's nice to see that all that talent at interpreting paint schemes in this fashion hasn't been for nothing! Hurrah for this "official stamp of approval" from NS!

I'd be impressed futher if Mr. Fletcher's designs were applied on such a scale, but one has to take baby steps in designing the paint scheme for a locomotive. Drawings are an excellent way to experiment with the designs, considering that painting a locomotive (steam, diesel, or electric) costs in excess of $3000.

It costs ALOT more then 3000$ to professionally paint a locomotive. More like $30,000 and up. Lots of variables..

I take it you mean the PRR unit?

Brunswick Green? Why would they use a color of paint that the Pennsy itself didn't use? :-)

The most recent issue of Trains has a column that addresses exactly this question with a one-off painting of a short line's locomotive. As I recall, the not-exactly-fancy paint job given in the example totaled up a little over $17,000.

Man, I didn't realize I lowballed my number by that much! To many variables that I didn't account for...
