Is that "Yep, It's Wood" part of the actual cover, or is it a joke pasted on the picture?

LOL. The real cover lacks the "Yep It's Wood." You can see it at Amazon and even look at a few pages within the book.

Back to potential sources... On another list it was mentioned that the contractor demolishing the former Soo Line ore dock in Ashland, WI, sold the entire timber approach trestle to an outfit named Trestlewood. Don't know anything about them, certainly don't know how they are on price, but here is the web site:

I don't know a lot about them, but I do know they got their start salvaging timbers from the Lucin Cutoff on the Great Salt Lake.

The wood has some very interesting colors from exposure to the salt and chemicals in the lake for all those years.

At that time, they seemed to be doing primarily decorative wood, mantels, table tops, that sort of thing. It appears they're branching out.

I happened to stop by the Spar Shop at the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport for a photo project I'm working with them on.

Here's an idea of the timbers they can make

Thats practically a whole tree.

I wish we grew tall straight trees like that in North Central Texas, but we don't, East Tx yes, South Tx yes, North Tx no.

Do they have a kiln, or just air dry a year or so prior to recutting?

Yes, it is pretty amazing! They have some impressive capabilities, and frequently get orders from Tall Ships around the world. If you saw "Water for Elephants", the tent poles were created in this shop. (Apparently they got a call after the first shipment though... The director said something to the effect of "They look too nice, too smooth and perfect! Can you make the next batch look rougher?")
