Actually, looks like an automotive wax might brighten up this paint.

You have an adhesion problem if my monitor pictures the reality.....fading? not improtant if the cover coat is failing and peeling off. I'd be interested in a refund.

Bad idea. Most automotive waxes contain silicones. That will make prep an absolute nightmare for the next guy to paint it. A traditional wax is more acceptable.

It names the supplier, but not the type of coatings.

PS. I'm sorry if I made it sound like I was involved with this loco restoration. (I wasn't).

If you mean the white stuff on the nose and the edge of the roof, I thought it was bird feces - that's our problem in WRM's oldest car barn...

Looks to me like the cover coat has removed itself from the primer.

That's a LOT of birds in one place for a long time.........have you thought about getting some cats?

We had a discussion and several different opinions on how and what to use to paint the 45 ton GE center cab so I went to the experts at MAB/Sherwin Williams. Their commercial salesman came out and looked at the the diesel and suggested we use their Rust-O-Lastic with primer on bare metal or if we just roughed up the paint that was adhering well. That's exactly what we did and it came out really nice with good shine.
