I'd bet putting a face on the front of any rolling stock would get you contacted by the Thomas people even though it's probably been done since the beginning of steam, if not in real life then certainly in fiction. But perhaps I'm wrong.

I have a sticker from the Yakima Valley Trolley, many years ago where they called it something like "The Jolly Trolley" (to give you an idea how long ago that was, we ran over the line past Congdon Castle)
